Fathering Project

Riverton Primary Dads Group

The Riverton Primary Dads Group was established in November 2020. The group focuses on building a community of local fathers and father-figures who want to be better Dads, through being strong role models and having a positive impact on their kids’ lives.

It follows a blueprint pioneered by The Fathering Project, an organisation founded here in Western Australia in 2013, that aims to foster father-child relationships and build stronger connections between families, schools and communities. Through its research, children with engaged fathers have better academic, social and emotional outcomes, and Dads benefit from being part of a supportive peer-to-peer environment that improves confidence, skills and commitment.

The Riverton Primary Dads Group embodies this mission by aiming to:

  • create special moments for Dads to engage with their kids through its Dads and kids events
  • create opportunities for fathers to meet, share and learn from each other through its Dads Only events
  • enhance our local school community through support of community building initiatives and volunteering

The group’s Dads and kids activities include its iconic, annual camp out and waterplay events; and has also featured picnics, nature play, hikes, paper planes, scavenger hunts, bouldering and soccer. Its Dads only events have included mental health, cyber security and kids resilience workshops as well as kayaking, axe throwing, tennis, lawn bowls, ultimate frisbee and indoor soccer.
